Lifestyle Discipleship:
A Wholistic and Integrated Vision

Feb-Forum

Many Christians tend to compartmentalize their life and limit their understanding of discipleship to church involvement and perhaps the cultivation of a private devotional life. These things are essential, but true discipleship is all-encompassing – what Francis Schaeffer called “the Lordship of Christ over the whole of life.” This includes all the social and cultural issues of life as well as our values, our priorities, and our whole lifestyle.

We live in a frenetic and dysfunctional society in which multi-tasking has become an addiction. We Tweet while we work, text while we drive, interact on Facebook, and spend an inordinate amount of time e-mailing. Yet we often feel more overwhelmed, isolated and disconnected than ever.

How can we possibly hear the gentle and subtle voice of God when we rarely stop and listen?

Nancy Sleeth, co-founder and president of Blessed Earth and the author of Almost Amish: One Woman’s Quest for a Slower, Simpler, More Sustainable Life, explores practical ways we can de-clutter our lives and begin to focus on the things that really matter – our relationships with family, friends, and God – through a wholistic and integrated approach to lifestyle discipleship.
