Francis Schaeffer (1912-84) was an important Christian thinker known for his stalwart defense of biblical truth, his incisive analyses of contemporary culture, and his passionate call for evangelicals to become involved in the great social, cultural and moral issues of our time. Dr. Schaeffer’s work was unique in its integration of four principles into a unified version of the Christian life:
• Christianity is Truth;
• Christian Truth touches all of life: “The lordship of Christ over the total culture;”
• Christian life & witness must show the whole character of God: “holiness and love;” and
• The truth of Christianity must be demonstrated both intellectually and practically through a life of faith.
Today more than ever, evangelical Christians need to recapture Schaeffer’s vision of an integrated, wholistic an engaged understanding of Christian discipleship.
